    Origin:
    Iwo Jima, Japan
Iwo Jima is just one of the Japanese Volcano Islands. It lies 650 miles south of Tokyo and was returned to the Japanese in 1968.
The sand used in these commemorative sets is gathered from Iwo Jima only once per year in a commemorative ceremony.
The famous photograph on featured on the included stamp was taken by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945. The Stamp was issued July 11, 1945.
A limited number of these sets have been produced. Each bit of sand is encased in a plastic coin holder. This is sat next to the commemorative stamp. Both are placed with the information card inside of a hard box (dimensions 5 3/8" x 4 1/4") with a glass top that is pinned together on the sides.  Very classy!
