This is a wonderful contemporary copy (circa;1946) of Dean Cornwell's painting 'THE DEATH of CAPTAIN WASKOW'. The print shows war correspondent Ernie Pyle kneeling at the grave of Captain Waskow of the United States Army 36th Infantry Division on the Italian front on 10, January 1944. 16 Unit Insignia's from left to right; 9th Air Force, 9th Infantry Division, 5th Army, 1st Marine Division, 36th Division, 45th Division, 3rd Division, 20th Air Force, 1st Division, 29th Division, 4th Division, XXIV Corps, Ranger Battalion, 1st Armored Division, 3rd Division, 34th Division. Cornwell's painting was used for a print on January 1946 issue of 'True, The Man's Magazine'. Dean Cornwell (1892 - 1960) was a brilliant left-handed painter who dominated the illustration field for many years. As a student of Harvey Dunn, he inherited much of the teaching of Howard Pyle (1853 - 1911) and later studied under Frank Brangwyn, The British muralist. To these influences Cornwell added his own monumental style, both intricate and bold. Great print to add to your collection or give as a gift. Thanks for looking. 'FREE SHIPPING IN THE U. S. A. ONLY.
