    Description

Vintage WWI Officer's Ankle Shoes, Made by Lotus a British Company
Stamped inside is Lotus and what appears to be 10 1/2. Lotus a well known British shoe company for many years and still in business today. These are of brown russet leather and still very pliable, with toe cap design, and pull on straps at upper back. Eyelets are painted brown, laces are replacements of later vintage, new from old stock, probably the 1930s.
This is of the style worn with leather leggings from pre WWI through the 1930s.
Shoes have rubber heel replacements, made by Cupples, an American tire and rubber company of St. Louis. Founded in 1916, later on their advertising slogan was "Tuff as a Rino", which they used during the 1920s. With this in mind these shoes could be British made and worn by an American officer post WWI.
Shoes remain sturdy and in very good condition as pictured. In recent years they were used only for a mannequin display. They are still of wearable quality if desired. I wear a size 10, and these are a little tight for me only in the width.
